USA: ViaSat to acquire Wildblue 05/10/2009
WildBlue, provider of high-speed Internet service via satellite, is being acquired by ViaSat for $568 million in cash and stock, the companies announced Thursday. Officials said the deal will greatly increase Internet speeds for WildBlue's customers. Services will eventually ride on a high-bandwidth satellite that Carlsbad, ViaSat plans to launch in 2011. The companies said they hope the merger will bolster their chances of landing roughly $500 million in federal stimulus money that would be used to improve and expand satellite-broadband services.
